Aluminium hydroxide, Al(OH) 3 , is a crystalline product obtained by crystallization from a sodium aluminate solution in the Bayer process. It can also be described as hydrated aluminium oxide that binds three water molecules – Aluminium trihydrate (ATH), Al2O3x3H2O. Within the range of Hydrate products, the Alumina company offers materials with a different moisture content that are suitable for further industrial use according to customer needs – Standard and Low-alkaline hydrates with a moisture content of 6 to 8%, and White hydrate with 8 to 11% of moisture. Hydrates are characterized by high purity, high whiteness, stable particle size distribution and high solubility in acids.
Wet hydrates of this type are used as a starting material for the production of aluminium salts, such as polyaluminium chloride (PAC) and aluminium sulphate that are widely used for water treatment, and aluminium fluoride used as mineralizer. These materials are also used for the production of synthetic sodium aluminate solutions and other aluminium based products.
ATH has a various applications, most commonly in production of alumina of different physical and chemical characteristics. Also in the industry of glass, glazes and frits, catalyst production, as filler for flame retardant, production of aluminum chemicals, etc.
